Safety Culture

Every 96 minutes a worker died in the U.S. from work-related injuries in 2022. It is estimated in 2021 workplace injuries cost $167 BILLION or $1,080 per worker! Sadly, the vast majority of workplace injuries and deaths are preventable. One of the most effective ways to reduce workplace injuries and fatalities is to create a strong safety culture which empowers workers to improve safety in the workplace. Safety culture is defined as an organization’s shared values and beliefs that influence employee behavior including people’s attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors about safety. When there is a strong commitment to safety, it is reflected in the organization’s daily operations.

A safe workplace not only reduces injuries, illnesses, and fatalities but also boosts employee morale; increases productivity; provides financial benefit to the company; positively impacts stock performance and shareholder value.; enhances the company’s reputation, and can help attract employees.

During Stand Up 4 Grain Safety Week, renew your commitment to safety. Encourage all workers to participate in your safety and health program, provide the training and tools to recognize good and bad safety practices, and support workers in advocating for the safety of themselves an others.
